Job cuts at NHS hospitals across England have been described as ‘unprecedented’ by DAUK chair Helen Fernandes in a national newspaper article.

Ms Fernandes contributed to a story in The i Paper on cuts to thousands of doctors, nurses, and other clinical staff roles.

Services such as diabetes care, rehab centres, and talking therapies, are at risk or are being cut back. The cuts aim to meet a £6.6 billion deficit.

Ms Fernandes told The i Paper: “I’ve never seen this type of action in the NHS in all the time I’ve been a doctor.

“That’s because deficits have traditionally been signed off and rolled over into the next year so we seem to have reached a pinch point with the Government playing hardball.”
