Collaboration between GPs and pharmacists is vital to efficient healthcare, says DAUK’s GP committee member Dr Sarah Jacques.
On behalf of DAUK and representing GPs, Dr Jacques attended a Westminster reception held by the Independent Pharmacies Association (IPA), which represents community pharmacies.
The event was to celebrate independent community pharmacies.
It was attended by the Health Minister Stephen Kinnock; Lord Nick Markham, a health minister in the Conservative Government; and Health Select Committee member Danny Beales.
Dr Jacques, who is a GP based in Sussex, was invited by Dr Leyla Hannbeck, chief executive of IPA.
It is the latest in a series of IPA events DAUK has been invited to.
General practice and pharmacy
Dr Jacques took part in a discussion on general practice, pharmacy, and Pharmacy First at an IPA Conference earlier this year.
She also presented on the GP contract and its impact on primary care at another IPA event in April.
Dr Jacques said: “We are keen to foster better working relationships between community pharmacies and GPs.
“Collaboration between these two highly-skilled sets of professionals is key to effective and efficient healthcare in the community, which will greatly benefit our patients.”
