Join us in marking Overseas NHS Workers Day 2025 this Friday (7 March).
Overseas NHS Workers Day presents an opportunity to celebrate the wonderful contributions of our international colleagues, on which the NHS depends.
Internationally trained doctors, nurses and many other professions work tirelessly every day to support the NHS and to provide outstanding care for patients.
NHS England figures show that around 20 per cent of NHS staff in England reported a non-British nationality.
They are here to help, yet many face difficulties while they help save lives.
Overseas NHS Workers Day
Overseas NHS Workers Day was launched during the pandemic by Dr Pushpo Hossain, our IMG lead.
Dr Hossain said: “It is a chance to give back, to recognise the incredible contributions they make, and also to raise awareness of some of the issues faced by international staff.”
This year we’ll be focusing on the lack of training opportunities for IMGs and for local graduates.
Please keep an eye on our website and social media on Friday (7 March) where we will explain more about our calls for the government to invest in graduate training places.
Celebrations
We also have the following suggestions for your Overseas NHS Workers Day celebrations, but you may have other ideas that will work for your organisation:
- Share a message on your Trust bulletin or newsletter about its participation in Overseas NHS Workers Day
- A message from your CEO thanking overseas NHS staff
- Display Overseas NHS Workers Day as a screensaver for the month of March
- Have an international lunch menu in the hospital canteen
- Display flags of different nationalities that work in the hospital in a corridor/large wall to show that overseas NHS workers are appreciated
- Arrange for staff to wear blue and green, the colours of Overseas NHS Workers Day
- Post pictures and videos of overseas staff on your trust-wide social media platforms
