Not The NHS Again: is there an NHS 10-Year Plan?

22 May 2026

The latest edition of the Not The NHS Again podcast discusses the NHS 10-Year Plan and the future of the healthcare system.

Host Dr Steve Taylor, the Doctors’ Association UK (DAUK) GP co-lead, is joined by Tony O’Sullivan, co-chair of Keep Our NHS Public, and Mark E Thomas, founder and editor of the 99% Organisation.

In the episode, titled NHS 10-Year Plan – is there one?, they discuss rising waiting lists, chronic underfunding and the increasing role of private providers in NHS planning and delivery.

Restore standards

Mark reflects on how the NHS was internationally recognised for quality, efficiency and equity, arguing that meaningful reform and investment could restore those standards.

Tony warns that market-driven policies and service cuts are already having serious consequences for patient care and public health.

And listeners will hear why the Government’s proposed 10-year NHS plan has attracted criticism, alongside discussion of staff morale, patient safety, and the dangers of performance targets overtaking clinical priorities.
