The Doctors’ Association UK (DAUK) has responded to the King’s Speech and the announcement of NHS Modernisation Bill.
The Department of Health said the bill ‘sets out significant reforms to improve care for patients through investment and modernisation’.
Responding to the announcement of the bill, Dr Steve Taylor, DAUK’s GP co-lead, said: “Investment in patient care and improvements in the NHS are always welcome.
“The changes implemented by the Government on the NHS have the potential to make things better, however, the reality is the top down approach is leading to increasing dissatisfaction from staff, no improvement in patient care and the risk of further problems.
Safeguards
“A single patient record without the necessary safeguards in sharing of data with patients will create significant problems.
“The continued involvement of Palantir is hugely problematic and, in our view, extremely unsafe.
“The loss of NHSE is creating more organisational change at just the time it’s needed to drive change.
“So instead there is uncertainty with people changing roles, losing jobs, or concerned staff worried about their own futures.
Local communities
“ICBs in theory mean more local provision of care but the failure to engage with, or listen to local communities and stakeholders, like GPs, means in many areas it will fail to deliver genuine local community care.
“As ever the devil is in the detail, but so far the details don’t provide any evidence of genuine benefit for patients.”
