DAUK’s GP lead Dr Lizzie Toberty says on Sky News that the decision to close GP surgeries has been made at the top and it is highly impractical for many surgeries to open even if they would like to.
GP surgeries work smoothly because they are dependent on a large number of staff performing various roles, including nurses, receptionists and pharmacists. If surgeries cannot staff their clinics (if staff have childcare needs due to closures in this sector) then they are unable to do the work.
