Our GP co-lead says it’s ‘concerning’ that antibiotics may have been inappropriately prescribed through Pharmacy First.
Dr Steve Taylor said it underlined the ‘significant challenges’ of prescribing to patients whose medical history ‘is not easily accessible or understood’.
He was providing comment to Pulse Today for its report that the General Pharmaceutical Council had received concerns important checks were ‘not fully considered’ before medicines were supplied. One example cited was through Pharmacy First.

Dr Taylor said: “It is concerning that mistakes are happening within the Pharmacy First programme given that this is some of the more simple prescribing done in primary care.”
He added “It once again highlights the reason training is essential and that expanding roles is not as simple as some think.”
