Members of our GP committee have written an editorial in the BMJ on the uncertain future of GP partnerships.
Our vice chair Dr Ellen Welch, a GP in Cumbria, and our GP spokesperson Dr Steve Taylor, who is based in Manchester, wrote about steps to make partnerships more appealing to newly-qualified GPs.
They wrote: “The partnership model’s sustainability stems from partners’ financial stake in success, so removing barriers and involving GPs in strategic decisions is essential for its future.”
Dr Welch and Dr Taylor were joined in writing the editorial by Paul Evans, chair of Gateshead and Tyneside LMC and north east representative of the BMA GP Committee England and BMA Council, and by GP partner, author, and broadcaster Ayan Panja.
